Statement by James Hertwig, president and CEO of Florida East Coast Railway, L.L.C.:
“Today’s announcement by Governor Rick Scott to direct the Florida DOT to provide $77 million to dredge the Port of Miami will position South Florida as a gateway for post-Panamax ships. Overnight, the state of Florida has made a statement to the global logistics industry that its ports will compete for a bigger share of the trade market. As the exclusive rail provider to the Port of Miami, Florida East Coast Railway will be able to provide overnight service throughout Florida and second/third morning service throughout the Southeast U.S. leveraging our excellent brand and customer service. We applaud Governor Scott for recognizing the economic benefits of investing in ports.”
