UK OFFERS LICENSES

FOR NORTH SEA AREASThe U.K. Department of Energy launched an offering of 11 offshore oil and gas exploration licenses in frontier areas of the North Sea.

The licensing round was announced Thursday by Peter Morrison, U.K. energy minister, who said the available areas are mainly in deep water, where detailed geology is largely unknown.

''I have made this specific licensing round now to enable companies to make an early start to work on selecting the licenses they wish to apply for," Mr. Morrison said.

MALAYSIAN COMPANY

ISSUES OIL TENDER

SINGAPORE - The Malaysian national oil company Petronas issued a tender to sell crude oil loading in late May and early June, traders said.

Petronas is offering 450,000 barrels each of Tapis, Labuan and Miri crudes. The tender closes April 23.

Petronas tenders are watched closely by traders in the Far East as they tend to influence price levels for Malaysian, Indonesian and Australian crude.

Bids are likely to be just under $18 a barrel for Tapis and Labuan, and 20 to 30 cents a barrel lower for Miri, traders estimated.
