Unitech appoints Coast Guard's Pluta to head homeland security

Universal Systems & Technology, Inc. said that Rear Adm. Paul J. Pluta, U.S. Coast Guard (Ret.) has been named senior vice president for homeland security.

Pluta will manage Unitech's port security, emergency response offerings, and day-to-day operations of the Homeland Security division of the firm. In addition, he is charged with programmatic plans for homeland security activities for both domestic and international markets.

Before joining Unitech, Pluta was the assistant commandant for Marine Safety, Security, and Environmental Protection at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, where he served as the program director and senior agency official for three major operational programs-marine safety, maritime security and environmental protection. Pluta also was the senior U.S. official representing the U.S. at the United Nations International Maritime Organization, and was the agency representative to the Office of Homeland Security Container Security Working Group and Department of Transportation National Infrastructure Security Committee.
