ICC ASKED TO REOPEN

PETITION ON FIREWORKSThe National Industrial Transportation League supports a reopening of a petition challenging United Parcel Service's decision to severely limit its transport of fireworks.

The ICC has agreed with UPS that hauling fireworks is increasingly difficult and expensive in view of the proliferation of non-uniform state and local regulations.

In comments to the Interstate Commerce Commission, the NITL requests consideration of those segments of transportation in which few carrier alternatives are available.

NORTHERN CONSOLIDATORS

BEGINS HAWAII SERVICE

AUBURN, Wash. - Northern Consolidators Inc., the domestic ocean freight consolidation unit of Danzas Corp., has started service to Hawaii.

Northern Consolidators already receives less-than-truckload freight from the continental United States and arranges ocean forwarding to Alaska. Now the company offers LTL service to Oahu from the West Coast. NCI arranges containerization, stowage and ocean carriage.

PANALPINA TO OPEN

NEW MIAMI WAREHOUSE

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Panalpina Inc. will open a new warehouse in Miami on June 27.

The new 85,000 square foot facility is adjacent to Miami International Airport and has dock space for 18 trucks, the company said. Panalpina employs 72 people at its Miami office, which serves as the freight forwarder's Latin American gateway for air and ocean consolidated shipments. The company has 28 U.S. branches.
