OFFSITE PACKING STARTS

HOUSTON AREA SERVICEHOUSTON - Shippers have a new export packing service in the Houston area.

Offsite Packing Specialists Inc. began operations at the beginning of February. The company operates out of a 16,000-square-foot warehouse, said John A. Lala, Offsite's president.

He said Offsite offers its services on-site or off-site and has lift capacity up to 40,000 pounds. The new company, 4.5 miles from the main gate at the Port of Houston, can be reached at (713) 687-8200.

BOWATER BUILDING PLANT

TO RECYCLE NEWSPAPER

DARIEN, Conn. - Bowater Inc. is building a $75 million newspaper recycling plant next to its Calhoun, Tenn., newsprint mill.

The paper products shipper said the plant will supply 300 short tons a day of recycled fiber for the newsprint mill, along with some coated magazine stock. Construction will begin this July, with start-up expected in December 1991.

Meanwhile, Bowater has moved its Florida operations from the Port of Tampa Bay to the Port of Port Manatee.

Bowater, which supplies newsprint for the St. Petersburg Times, said it made the move to improve logistics.
