K+N Acquires New Zealand Reefer Operator

Kuehne + Nagel is acquiring 75 percent of New Zealand-based Cooltainer, an operator of refrigerated container services in the South Pacific.

The new acquisition follows closely on Kuehne + Nagel's purchase in January of three South American airfreight forwarders that specializes in perishables logistics.

Cooltainer, headquartered in Christchurch, operates a dedicated branch network throughout Australia and New Zealand. It provides door-to-door service for temperature sensitive cargo, including fruits, meat, frozen vegetables and meals, in the South Pacific region. It covers niche markets such as the Trans-Tasman and Pacific Islands trades.

Peter Ulber, executive vice president of Sea & Air Logistics at Kuehne + Nagel International said the acquisition will strengthen the company's market position by complementing its operations in Australia and New Zealand.
