Deutsche Bahn AG is National Sponsor of the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup

(Berlin/Munich, March 3, 2010) Deutsche Bahn AG is to be National Sponsor of the 2011 FIFA Women's World CupTM in Germany. This was announced in Munich today by Dr. Rüdiger Grube, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of Deutsche Bahn AG, Dr. Theo Zwanziger, President of the German Soccer Association, Thierry Weil, FIFA Director Marketing Division and Steffi Jones, President of the Organizing Committee. The group of six National Sponsors for the first FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany is thus already complete, 16 months before the opening match kicks off in Berlin on June 26, 2011.

We are delighted to have Deutsche Bahn AG in our team once again as National Sponsor for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup. All over the world, Deutsche Bahn is a byword for outstanding mobility and logistics services and for great commitment to soccer. It already impressively demonstrated these qualities in its role of National Sponsor of the 2006 FIFA World Cup - and that was why we were particularly keen to have Deutsche Bahn on our side once again in 2011, stated Dr. Theo Zwanziger.

The commitment of Deutsche Bahn AG means we have won another top-class company to support the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, said Thierry Weil, FIFA Director Marketing Division. In 2006, the strong Deutsche Bahn AG brand was already a key member of the team and coped splendidly with the enormous logistics demands of that major event. The same will also be true of the FIFA Women's World Cup, which can only benefit from this cooperation.

Speaking in Munich on the date of the classic international match between Germany and Argentina, Dr. Rüdiger Grube commented: The 2006 FIFA World Cup clearly proved the fascination that our country can evoke. DB was already involved in that event in the capacity of National Sponsor. That was why we were very eager to support the Women's World Cup, too, and help to ensure that the 2011 World Cup generates the same enthusiasm throughout the world as the 2006 World Cup did. We shall do everything in our power to support the players and their fans. Grube added, Although many of the officials and fans will already use Deutsche Bahn regional and long-distance trains before the Women's World Cup, the main demand will be during the event itself. We are determined to convince all our national and international customers by offering reliable products and customer friendliness. DB Schenker will again contribute its comprehensive logistics expertise. Once more, we shall deliver proof of our efficiency.

The teamwork between FIFA and Deutsche Bahn is an ideal combination. A world-class event such as the Women's World Cup and its immense organizational challenges for the entire transport sector could hardly be managed at all without the mobility and logistics services provided by Deutsche Bahn. Moreover, as a highly respected global player, Deutsche Bahn's support will help to boost the role of women's soccer on a national and international scale, commented Steffi Jones. We are really pleased to have all six contracts signed and sealed at such an early stage. This shows the important role played by women's soccer in general and the high expectations of the first Women's World Cup to be held in Germany.

As National Sponsor, Deutsche Bahn AG is planning a wide range of activities for the target group of children and young adults in the run-up to the event and during the Women's World Cup. By doing so, DB will also emphasize its social commitment. Top-quality soccer and promoting upcoming talent have long since between the two mainstays of our soccer activities, adds Grube.

During the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, the Deutsche Bahn Group contributed its entire expertise across all sectors. Roughly 15 million fans and accredited journalists from all over the world used the extensive range of Deutsche Bahn local, regional and long-distance trains to travel to and from the stadiums and the public viewing locations. In its capacity as official logistics services provider, DB Schenker was also responsible for the entire sports logistics in connection with the World Cup.

The 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup - the 6th Women's World Cup - will be held in nine German cities between June 26 and July 17, 2011.
