CZECH JOBLESS ROSE IN OCTOBER

Unemployment in the Czech Republic reached 3.22 percent of the work force in October, up slightly from 3.17 percent in September, the Czech statistical office has reported.

However, using methods prevalent in Western Europe, the Czech Finance Ministry has said, the figure could be more than 1 percentage point higher. The Czech ministry of labor and social affairs currently uses the number of people reported unemployed by the local labor exchanges to measure joblessness.

The statistical office announced earlier this month it will conduct household surveys every quarter in order to provide data comparable internationally.

Even the higher figures are well below the government's earlier predictions of up to 6 percent unemployed by the end of the year.
