API WEEKLY REPORT US CRUDE INVENTORIES FALL ON WEEK

U.S. inventories of crude oil fell by 7.2 million barrels during the week ended July 21, compared with the previous week, the American Petroleum Institute's latest weekly supply bulletin shows.

Crude stocks were 310.4 million barrels, down from 317.6 million barrels in the previous week and lower than the 332 million barrels in inventory a year earlier.Primary inventories of gasoline were down to 207.8 million barrels, compared with 208.2 million the prior week, and were less than the 212.3 million barrels of the year-earlier week.

Regular unleaded reformulated gasoline (RFG) stocks were 36.9 million barrels, down from 38.2 million barrels the previous week.

Primary inventories of distillate fuel oil, used as home heating and diesel fuel, fell to 120 million barrels from 121.6 million the previous week, and were lower than the 126.4 million barrels on hand in the similar period a year earlier.

Primary stocks are those held by refiners, importers and at pipeline terminals. They do not reflect stocks held by jobbers, retailers or consumers.

Distillate production was 3 million barrels a day, down from 3.2 million the previous week and the 3.5 million barrels a day a year earlier.

Distillate fuel imports were 219,000 barrels a day, down from 305,000 barrels a day in the prior week but above year-earlier levels of 136,000 barrels a day.

The refinery utilization rate fell to 94.1 percent from 95.1 percent in the previous week and was down from from 94.8 percent a year earlier.

Gasoline production was 7.8 million barrels a day, unchanged for the week but higher than the 7.2 million barrels a day of gasoline produced in the similar period a year ago.

Imports of gasoline rose to 439,000 barrels a day from 153,000 barrels a day in the previous week, and were more than the 362,000 barrels a day imported a year earlier.

Crude oil imports were 6.7 million barrels a day, down from the previous week's 8.1 million and less than the 7.4 million barrels a day a year earlier.
