API WEEKLY REPORT CRUDE OIL INVENTORIES DECREASE

U.S. crude oil inventories fell by 900,000 barrels during the week ended Oct. 13, compared with the previous week, the American Petroleum Institute's latest weekly supply bulletin shows.

Crude stocks were 300.2 million barrels, down from a revised figure of 301.1 million barrels in the previous week and lower than the 334 million barrels in inventory a year earlier.Primary inventories of distillate fuel oil, used as home heating and diesel fuel, rose to 132.8 million barrels from 130.8 million the previous week, but were lower than the 143.9 million barrels on hand in the similar period a year earlier.

Primary stocks are those held by refiners, importers and at pipeline terminals. They do not reflect stocks held by jobbers, retailers or consumers.

Primary inventories of gasoline were down to 196.5 million barrels, compared with 198.9 million, revised, in the prior week, and were less than the 208.6 million barrels of the year-earlier week.

Regular unleaded reformulated gasoline (RFG) stocks were 34.7 million barrels, down from a revised 35.7 million barrels the previous week.

Distillate production was 3.2 million barrels a day, down from 3.3 million the previous week and less than the 3.4 million barrels of a year earlier.

Distillate fuel imports were 142,000 barrels a day, up from 74,000 barrels a day in the prior week and above year-earlier levels of 140,000 barrels a day.

The refinery utilization rate was 88.2 percent, down from 92.2 percent in the previous week and lower than the 90.5 percent a year earlier.

Gasoline production was 7.3 million barrels a day, down from 7.6 million the previous week but higher than the 7.2 million barrels a day produced in the similar period a year ago.

Imports of gasoline fell to 333,000 barrels a day from 364,000 barrels a day in the previous week, and were less than the 352,000 barrels a day imported a year earlier.

Crude oil imports were 7.6 million barrels a day, up from the previous week's 6.6 million and more than the 7.1 million barrels a day a year earlier.
