Swiss WorldCargo charters 747s

Swiss WorldCargo on Wednesday said it has chartered two 747 freighters operated by Evergreen International Airlines.

Swiss said the charters will accommodate increased demand for service into New York.

The airline made the first new flights of the chartered jets from Zurich July 26 and Aug. 11.

"This is one of the measures by which Swiss WorldCargo is offsetting the capacity loss that has resulted from the downsizing of the Swiss network," the airline said in a statement.

Swiss WorldCargo usually transports consignments in the belly holds of Swiss's passenger fleet.
