SFO Names Doug Yakel as Public Information Officer

SAN FRANCISCO – June 5, 2013 – San Francisco International Airport has named Doug Yakel as its new Public Information Officer, effective immediately.

The Public Information Officer serves as SFO’s primary spokesperson for internal and external communications, represents the Airport at various community outreach forums, and will develop content and programs for the Airport’s social and public media outlets. The Airport’s Noise Abatement Office will report into the PIO role.

“With his years of experience in the aviation industry, Doug understands the operations and nuances of both the Airport and the airlines.” said Kandace Bender, Deputy Airport Director, Communications & Marketing. “Doug brings to this position the ability to clearly and concisely communicate SFO’s often complex and technical issues.”

Doug’s years of operational and communications experience include Airport Duty Manager at SFO; Station Manager for Virgin America; General Manager of Airline Services at San Jose International Airport; and more than 18 years at United Airlines in increasingly responsible supervisory positions involving daily operations, customer service and ramp operations. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Technology from Purdue University.
