June a boost for Lufthansa Cargo

Lufthansa Cargo, Europe's largest air freight carrier, on Friday said it transported 10 percent more cargo in June than a year ago with routes to North and South America outpacing Asia/Pacific services.

The latter have led the recovery in the global market in the past year.

Total traffic rose to 143,000 metric tons in June on a 13.3 percent increase in cargo capacity, taking shipments for the first six months of the year to 840,000 tons, a gain of 9.5 percent on the first half of 2003.The load factor, or portion of cargo capacity filled, rose by 0.8 percentage points to 65.3 percent.

Traffic on the Americas network jumped 8.5 percent to 35,000 tons, just short of Asia/Pacific traffic which rose 8.5 percent to 36,000 tons. Middle East/Africa services posted the biggest gain with traffic 12.2 percent higher at 9,000 tons.

Parent company Lufthansa said passenger traffic rose 15.2 percent in June, to over 4.5 million.
