British Airways adds freighter to US services

LONDON -- British Airways World Cargo on Monday announced a major expansion of its global freighter network with the addition of a fourth Boeing cargo jet that will operate services to Chicago and Shanghai beginning in September.

The carrier said it will offer a weekly freighter service between Chicago and Kuwait with a 747-200 freighter that will also provide connections to other freighter destinations including Frankfurt, Johannesburg, Dubai and Damman. It said the Saturday night departure from Chicago is aimed at meeting shippers' export consolidation requirements over the weekend.

The carrier also is adding freighter capacity to China with a twice-weekly service between the United Kingdom and Shanghai that will complement its existing all cargo and mainline schedule to and from Hong Kong and India.

The new aircraft will join BA's fleet of three 747-400 freighters.
