UPS bought 130 hybrid electric vehicles to add to its growing alternative-fuel vehicle fleet.
The package delivery company will deploy 30 of the new generation hybrids in New York and New Jersey and 100 in California.
Hybrid vehicle news from JOC:
Hybrids Hit the Road.
The vehicles will save 66,085 gallons of fuel and cut production of 671 metric tons of CO2 annually, representing a 35 percent improvement in fuel economy or the equivalent of taking 128 passenger cars off the road, UPS said.
UPS already operates one of the largest private AFV fleets in the transportation industry with 2,022 vehicles at a cost of more than $25 million. The fleet is deployed in the U.S. and eight other countries.
