
The average price of a gallon of diesel was nearly the same last week as the week before, according to a report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Across the country, changes of less than a penny up and down resulted in a climb of six-tenths of a cent to an average price of $2.674 per gallon.
Oil futures have hovered near $72 per barrel for more than a week. Crude oil for October delivery closed up 25 cents at $72.74 per barrel Friday on the New York Mercantile Exchange. That was down $1.15 per barrel from a week earlier and up $1.81 per barrel from two weeks earlier.
Diesel prices fell slightly in two regions last week. In the Gulf Coast, diesel dipped four-tenths of a cent to $2.618 per gallon, the lowest regional average in the country. In the East Coast, diesel barely slipped one-tenth of a cent to $2.691 per gallon.
Elsewhere the price went up, but barely. In the Rocky Mountains, diesel gained 2.1 cents to reach $2.692 per gallon. In the West Coast, a climb of 1.7 cents brought diesel to $2.802 per gallon, the nation’s highest regional average. In the Midwest, diesel rose 1.2 cents to $2.649 per gallon.
