Diesel last week dropped 4.2 cents to an average price of $2.045 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
Even as crude oil futures leveled off near $45 per barrel, diesel went into its eighth consecutive weekly decline. The biggest drop was in the Rocky Mountain region, where drivers paid 7.4 cents less than a week ago. At $2.017 per gallon, diesel was near the bottom of this week’s scale and down $1.715 from last year.
The lowest retail prices were in the Midwest, where diesel averaged $1.988 per gallon, down 4.2 cents from last week and down $1.796 from last year.
The top of the scale was dominated by the East Coast. Diesel fell least there, inching down 3.1 cents to $2.122 per gallon. That was $1.748 below the average price in the region a year ago, but it was still the highest average in the country last week.
