Canada Truck Freight Index Falls 19 Percent

An index of Canadian trucking activity fell 19 percent in July from the month before, freight services provider TransCore said Monday, but the decline was in line with seasonal shipping patterns.

The month-to-month setback was the first for TransCore’s Canadian Freight Index since December 2009 and came after six straight monthly increases pushed the measure in June to its highest point in two years.

TransCore said the Canadian index still was up 53 percent over July a year ago and the slip from June was “consistent with the five-year historical trend representing seasonality, vacation and construction activity.”

Cross-border loads also fell 18 percent from June to July, TransCore said, but grew 69 percent from July 2009.
