C.H. Robinson Worldwide acquired Timco Worldwide, one of the largest melon sourcing and distribution companies in North America and Latin America, for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition strengthens $9.3 billion C.H. Robinson’s produce sourcing and distribution operation, making it one of the largest players in the melon market. Timco, established in 1985, has a melon growing network in 10 U.S. states and five Latin American countries: Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico and Panama.
The Davis, Calif.-based company uses proprietary technology to plan, sort and distribute product year-round, keeping U.S. retail shelves stocked with melons. Timco’s product line includes conventional and organic watermelons, cantaloupe and Honeydew melons marketed under the Melon Up! And Irish Eyes labels.
“This acquisition supports our strategy to develop innovative products and grower relationships,” said Jim Lemke, senior vice president at C.H. Robinson.
