Celadon Income Spikes 51.4 Percent

Truckload carrier Celadon Group reported income of $8.26 million in the first quarter of the company's fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30, up 51.4 percent from $5.46 million in the same quarter in 2011.

Quarterly revenue was $153.30 million, up 6.5 percent year-over-year from $143.96 million.

Freight revenue in the first quarter was $122.11 million, increasing 6.4 percent compared with freight revenue of $143.96 million in the same quarter last year.

A 2-percent increase in revenue per loaded mile and decreases in operations, maintenance and fuel expense contributed to quarterly improvements, the company said.
