Celadon Group reported profit in the second quarter of the company's fiscal year was $7.4 million, jumping 34.6 percent from $5.5 million in the same quarter the year before.
Quarterly revenue increased 2.7 percent from $144.2 million to $148.1 million. Freight revenue, which excludes fuel surcharges, increased 1.5 percent to $116.8 million from $115.1 million.
For the six-month period ending Dec. 31, 2012, income was $15.6 million, spiking 43.1 percent from $10.9 million in the same period the previous year. Revenue was $301.4 million, rising 4.6 percent from $288.2 million. Freight revenue, which excludes fuel surcharges, increased 4.0 percent to $238.9 million in 2012 from $229.8 million in 2011.
“Cost controls and operating efficiencies continued to positively impact results,” said Paul Will, Celadon’s president and CEO, in a written statement. “Our balance sheet remains solid and we retain significant liquidity to support the growth of our business.”
