Arkansas Best

Arkansas Best is an American freight transportation company that offers full-service transportation and logistics solutions as well as supply chain solutions. Founded in 1923 with headquarters in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the company reported 2013 revenue of $2.3 billion, up 11.3 percent year-over-year. The company also reported net income of $15.8 million, up from previous year’s net loss of $7.7 million.

Arkansas Best and its subsidiaries — ABF Freight, ABF Logistics, Panther Premium Logistics, FleetNet America, and ArcBest Technologies — employ 11,000 individuals nationwide and serve approximately 35,000 national customers. The freight carrier offers both national and regional freight services through operation of 250 facilities nationwide and a fleet of 3,700 tractors and 20,000 trailers.

Stronger shipping demand, higher truck rates and savings from a new five-year labor agreement combined to deliver a solid increase in revenue and return to profit in 2013 for Arkansas Best and its less-than-truckload subsidiary ABF Freight System, the sixth-largest LTL trucking company. The company turned a $19.8 million 2012 loss into a $10 million profit last year.
