Class 8 Orders Stay Soft

North America heavy-duty Class 8 commercial vehicle preliminary net orders for September remained weak, ACT Research Co., LLC, reported today.

Preliminary orders, which are typically accurate within 5 percent of final results, are predicted to approach 15,600 units for Class 8 trucks and 14,000 for medium-duty vehicles of Classes 5 to 7.

Continued weakness in Class 8 demand is consistent with softness in a number of freight-related data series, due in part to Election Day angst, said Kenny Vieth, president and senior analyst of the publishing company.
