Roadrunner Transportation Systems increased its net profit 37.6 percent to $9.9 million while boosting revenue 23.4 percent to $279.2 million in the third quarter.
The trucking and logistics company, one of the fastest growing carriers in the trucking industry, benefited from acquisitions, pricing and productivity initiatives.
LTL revenues, including fuel surcharges, increased 4.9 percent to $132.5 million. LTL tonnage per day improved 8.3 percent over the third quarter of 2011.
Roadrunner’s LTL operating profit rose from 6.5 million a year ago to $10 million. LTL revenue per hundredweight was up 4.3 percent excluding fuel surcharges.
Truckload revenue leaped 56.6 percent to $124.2 million, including revenue gained from several truckload and intermodal acquisitions over the past year.
Truckload operating profit rose from $5.6 million a year ago to $7.3 million.
Transportation management services revenue rose 10.4 percent year-over-year to $24 million. TMS operating profit increased from $2.4 million to $2.7 million.
