Springfield, MA – Beginning this summer, Sitterly Movers (Roger Sitterly & Son), a family-owned and Springfield-based transportation company since 1930, is becoming the first moving company in the nation to utilize a new energy saving technology. Sitterly Movers is deploying ATDynamic’s Trailer Tail, an award-winning green technology on some of their largest fleet vehicles. Sitterly is also the first company of it’s kind to work with the manufacturer to modify the design to fit moving company trailers.

The technology is known as the “Trailer Tail” and has been awarded the 2012 Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award for it’s aerodynamic design and fuel efficiency. The Trailer Tail is a lightweight, thermo-dynamic plastic composite faring installed to the back of a tractor trailer, to streamline airflow behind the trailer. According to ATD Dynamics, the device can reduce aerodynamic drag and corresponding fuel consumption by 6.6% at sustained speeds of 65mph.

“We are proud to have worked with ATDynamics to make their technology available to the moving industry,” said Rod Sitterly, president and owner of Sitterly Movers, of his relationship with the company. “Over the course of 2012, we really wanted to make this work with our trucks, which are a bit different than traditional trailers, due to the type of work we do. It’s just one of the many things Sitterly does to update our technology, save our customers money and work to help reserve our environment.”

Sitterly has instituted several other technologies recently for the same environmental and cost-conscious purpose. From advances in engine and truck “green technology” to recyclable boxes and trade show materials, the efforts made by Sitterly Movers are category-leading. “We want to be sure we’re as up to date as possible so our customers and corporate clients both enjoy the cost-savings and they can feel good about choosing Sitterly to help them when they need to move.”
