YRC Worldwide CEO James Welch is rehiring a former YRC vice president to serve as his top legal officer as he rebuilds the financially troubled trucking company.
Michelle A. Russell will return to the $4.3 billion less-than-truckload operator as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary, effective Feb. 13.
“The YRC Worldwide board and I wanted to bring in a strong individual to lead the legal, risk and compliance team,” Welch said. “Michelle knows our business thoroughly, having risen through the ranks in her earlier career at YRC Worldwide.”
Welch himself rejoined YRC Worldwide as CEO last July after a stint as chief executive at same-day delivery company Dynamex. Since then, he has streamlined and reorganized the holding company’s management structure.
Russell spent 12 years with YRC, ultimately becoming a vice president and assistant general counsel. Most recently, she was general counsel for Spirit AeroSystems. Jeff Bennett, interim general counsel, will stay with YRC as deputy general counsel.
