Trucking company Saia today reported its income in the fourth quarter of 2012 was $5.4 million, shooting up 118.6 percent from $2.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2011.
Quarterly revenue was $264.4 million, rising 4.5 percent from $253.0 million in the same quarter the previous year.
For the full year of 2012, profit was $32.0 million, jumping 181.8 percent from $11.4 million in 2011. Yearly revenue was $1.1 billion, up 6.7 percent from $1.0 billion the previous year.
“The continued implementation of industrial engineering initiatives has improved operating efficiencies, reduced our reliance on purchased transportation, increased fuel efficiency, reduced cargo claims expense and enhanced customer service,” said Rick O’Dell, Saia’s president and CEO, in a written statement.
