The Dependable Companies is turning to a dependable source of energy to power its headquarters — the sun.
The multi-modal transportation business is installing a 1.2 megawatt solar photovoltaic system atop its headquarters in Los Angeles.
Premier Power will handle engineering, procurement and construction for the project, and JinkoSolar will provide Dependable’s solar power modules. The cost of converting to solar power from the electricity grid was not disclosed.
"Our new solar system enables us to offset approximately 30,000 tons of carbon emissions over 25 years, the equivalent of removing more than 55 million mid-sized automobile miles from the road," said Ron Massman, CEO of The Dependable Companies.
Dependable has six operating divisions covering most aspects of transportation and logistics, including Dependable Highway Express, a less-than-truckload carrier. DHE grew 47.6 percent in 2010, according to data supplied by SJ Consulting Group.
The company acquired Matheson Fast Freight, another regional LTL trucking company providing service in California and the West, in 2010.
In addition to the solar energy system, the company said it operates a fleet of low-emissions trucks and more than 120 electric forklifts. Dependable is working on an energy efficiency analysis for the International Warehouse Logistics Association.
