ANN ARBOR, Mich. — July 11, 2013 — Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) trucking company and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced Rod Fracassi, chief counsel for Con-way Freight, was honored with the 2013 Distinguished Service Award by the Transportation Lawyer’s Association (TLA). The TLA is an independent international bar association whose members assist providers and/or commercial users of logistics and transportation services.

Each year, TLA honors a member of its organization with the Distinguished Service Award. The award, which originated in 1976, recognizes those who give of themselves for the greater good of their colleagues, the industries they represent and the legal system. For 2013, TLA chose Con-way Freight’s Rod Fracassi for its Distinguished Service Award.

“This award is presented to a member who demonstrates sustained commitment to our fine organization’s mission, goals and roles,” says Fritz Damm, counsel at Scopelitis, Garvin, Light, Hanson & Feary, PLC, and chairman of TLA‘s Committee on Recruitment and Member Services. “Rod fits this description as he has almost single-handedly given life to one of our major committees. Through his diligence and hard work, Rod has brought the Corporate Counsel Committee to become a viable and important committee for TLA.”

Fracassi, an 18-year veteran in the legal industry, manages Con-way Freight’s legal department and oversees all legal aspects of the company. Fracassi is a member of the Con-way Freight leadership team and provides counsel to the corporation to promote legal compliance, mitigate risk and diminish legal liability. He joined TLA in 2005.

“The irony of receiving this prestigious award is that I feel that I receive much more out of the Transportation Lawyer’s Association than I provide,” says Fracassi. “The contributions that I have made over the years were intended to make a great association better, even if in a small way. To be recognized for that effort is truly an honor.”

Fracassi joined Con-way Freight in 1998 as counsel and has held several other roles prior to being promoted in 2008 to chief counsel, the title he holds today. Prior to joining Con-way, Fracassi was a partner in a private practice and has been practicing law for more than 18 years. Fracassi received his J.D. from the Michigan State College of Law and a master’s degree in business administration from Wayne State University.
