Pacer International and CRST International this week reached agreements that will give the former more drayage capacity, as the duo attempts to reduce empty miles and attract more short-haul business.
The two companies said the initial focus will be adding incremental capacity to Pacer’s intermodal door-to-door service, with 200 trucks to be added in the Chicago and Salt Lake City markets this year. CRST will deploy new trucks so that Pacer can be more fuel efficient in serving heavy commodity customers.
“The establishment of CRST dedicated contract agreements will allow Pacer to expand its dray capacity while tightly integrating the critical order management, street route planning, and dispatch management processes,” said Pacer Chairman and CEO Dan Avramovich.
CRST IMX, a newly formed subsidiary, will market, sell and operate the network of intermodal drayage and other short-haul services.
