Swissport Corporate Headquarters and Station Zurich registered as ISAGO providers

Zurich, 5th July, 2011 – Swissport International, the world’s leading provider of ground services to the aviation sector, has been awarded the IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO) certificate for its Corporate Headquarters and Zurich station, and is now listed on the ISAGO Registry.

Flight safety starts on the ground. With the growth of air traffic, airport operations have become increasingly complex. More and larger aircraft, an increase in ground support equipment, and faster turnaround times all contribute to the challenge of operational safety. Modelled on the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) framework, the IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO) is the first industry standard designed to improve safety and reduce damages on the ground.

Over the course of three days last autumn, the ISAGO auditing airline KLM meticulously assessed Swissport’s Zurich station in the categories of Organisation and Management, Load Control, Passenger Handling, Baggage Handling, Aircraft Handling and Loading, and Aircraft Ground Movement, for both documentation and implementation. Security and safety are the main priorities, and both the documentation and implementation of processes must measure up to the most-stringent requirements to enter the ISAGO registry.

Swissport Zurich, following the successful completion of its Corporate and Station in Zurich, Switzerland, has been awarded the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO) certificate.

“This latest registration proves that the Swissport team has documented and implemented a state-of-the-art Management System, designed to provide efficient and tailor-made services to our customers, with the focus on safety and security,” says Erich Bodenmann, Executive Vice President of Group Services – comprising Corporate Operations & Quality, Corporate IT and Procurement. He also praised Michael Thuersam, Head of Corporate Quality, Health and Safety, who has led the project, based at Swissport’s headquarters in Zurich. Thuersam said: “We are proud to have successfully completed the audit and are satisfied that our efforts to achieve business excellence have paid off.

The certification, however, also requires that the IATA-defined standards, with their focus on safety and security, be adhered to and implemented at all times, and Swissport Zurich will do its utmost to ensure that this is done.” Swissport International – this year again named Best Ground Handling Company by the respected Institute for Transport Management – is also committed more broadly to the ISAGO programme. “We will further intensify our efforts to increase the number of stations listed on the Registry,” added Thuersam.
