Top 50 Global Container Ports

Among the ports in the JOC Top 50 World Container Ports in 2014 are a dozen ports in mainland China and Hong  Kong, far outpacing  the number of ports of any other country in the rankings, including the United States, which has five. Those Top 50 ports in mainland China and Hong Kong had market share of 40.9 percent and 181.7 million TEUs of the total JOC Top 50’s 444.5 million-TEU throughput. All 27 ranked Asia ports garnered 71.2 percent and 316.5 million TEUs of the total JOC Top 50 rankings. In contrast, the five U.S. ports in the Top 50 rankings had a total market share of 6.2 percent and 27.7 million TEUs among the JOC Top 50.

How are the mainland China ports performing so far in 2015? Comparing the year-over-year TEU throughput growth of the Top 10 mainland China container ports in the first half of 2015 vs. the first half of 2014, growth was up 10.6 percent. In contrast, for the Top 10 mainland China container ports in calendar 2014 vs. calendar 2013, growth was up 5.6 percent.
