The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration implemented 11 changes to the safety measurement system behind its CSA truck safety enforcement program.
The changes include converting the Cargo-Related BASIC to a Hazardous Materials BASIC and strengthening the Vehicle Maintenance BASIC, the FMCSA said Dec. 3.
The BASICs are categories assigned scores reflecting a carrier's performance. CSA stands for Compliance, Safety, Accountability.
BASIC scores that exceed thresholds trigger invervention by the FMCSA, starting with a letter and ranging up to out-of-service orders.
