The U.S. Department of Transportation has established a National Freight Advisory Committee to provide recommendations aimed at improving the national freight transportation system.
The recent transportation bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century, or MAP-21, signed by President Obama in July 2012, established a national freight policy and called for the creation of a National Freight Strategic Plan.
The freight stakeholder group will work with DOT’s internal Freight Policy Council and will provide legislative suggestions on implementation of the freight transportation requirements of MAP-21.
The committee will comprise 25 members, representing various modes of freight transportation, regions of the country and areas of freight policy expertise. The DOT is soliciting nominations for members of the committee. Instructions on how to do so will be available in the Federal Register.
