The Senate could vote on the Water Resources Development Act as soon as April, after the Environment and Public Works Committee unanimously approved the bill today.
The port and inland waterway authorization bill was last passed in 2007. The most recent version of the bill aims to prevent the siphoning of Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund dollars from ports and to speed up Army Corps of Engineers’ projects.
“We have some wind at our back because we have such a broad coalition of support,” said Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., who chairs the E&PW committee.
The House has yet to introduce its own version of the two-year bill, but Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster, R-Pa., said it’s his top priority.
