Transportation Institute Board elects two new members

DENVER—The Board of Directors of the Transportation Institute at the University of Denver (DTI) has elected two new members, both talented contributors to the field of transportation.

The DTI Board gives strategic direction to DTI, serving as a guide for the Institute’s educational programming while providing leadership and resources for academic and outreach activities. Each Board member is elected for a three-year term, during which they serve to further the success of the DTI through interaction in educational program content, participation in classes, sponsoring students, and development efforts. Board members help to promote the DTI’s mission “to create a distinguished network of freight and passenger transportation leaders through education, research, and outreach.”

The two newest members of the DTI Board bring with them more than fifty years of combined experience in the transportation industry and a broad range of knowledge that reaches across both the private and public sectors. Together, their contributions to the field of

transportation span four decades, two countries, and every major mode of modern transport.

“The DTI Board membership includes senior leaders from all facets of the transportation industry,” remarked DTI Board Chair, Adriene Bailey. “This board is comprised of individuals who have a passion to further our industry’s positive impact by addressing critical issues and educating our next generation of leaders.”

New DTI Board members include:

Linda Bauer Darr is the President of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association. Her career in the transportation industry began in 1989 when she joined the American Trucking Association - North American Transportation Alliance, where she served as an advocate for the U.S. trucking industry in relations with government agencies, Congress, international markets, and the media. Since then, Ms. Darr has also held related distinguished roles as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Budget and Programs at the U.S. Department of Transportation and President and CEO of the American Moving & Storage Association. Collectively, Ms. Darr has worked with every major mode of transportation as either an advocate or a government official and has served on numerous panels and boards in support of transportation-related issues.

Brad Skinner has more than 30 years of experience in the transportation and logistics industry in both the United States and Mexico. Currently, Mr. Skinner serves as the Executive Chairman of OmniTRAX, Vice President-Business Development for Greenbrier Companies, and a member of the Board of Directors at Westway Group. He has held senior management positions at Schneider National (Truckload), BN Motor Carriers, Southern Pacific (Rail), Fritz (Logistics), and created and oversaw the management of Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana, a highly successful Mexican rail carrier. Throughout his career, Mr. Skinner has successfully created and transformed organizations into highly productive, visionary, and efficient ventures and in the process, added significant value for investors and customers.

“We are very pleased to be welcoming representatives from the manufacturing and short line railroad industries onto the DTI Board,” said William J. DeWitt III, the Executive Director of the DTI. “Their knowledge and expertise in these sectors will provide greater perspective on the unique challenges facing our industry in each of these fields.”

The Transportation Institute at the University of Denver offers an executive master’s degree program that awards a Master of Science in Transportation Management.
