Twenty-four senators recently signed a letter to President Obama expressing support for negotiating strengthened labor rights and protections against outsourcing in the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters led a coalition to help gain support from the 23 Democratic senators and Republican Senator Olympia Snowe, R-Maine.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a multilateral trade agreement among countries that border the Pacific Ocean, including Australia, Chile, Peru, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, New Zealand, Vietnam and the United States. The 15th round of negotiations is being held in Auckland, New Zealand, from Dec. 3 to Dec. 12, 2012.
