The U.S. House of Representatives today gave its approval to H.R. 6156, the Russia and Moldova Jackson-Vanik Repeal Act of 2012, the Hill reports.
The legislation enjoyed broad support, passing the lower house by a vote of 365-43.
H.R. 6156 would grant permanent normal trade relations status to U.S. trade with Moldova and Russia. It also includes language calling for sanctions on Russian officials involved in human rights violations, an aspect of the bill Russia has condemned.
The legislation now advances to the Senate.
