The World Trade Organization’s Dispute Settlement Body has established a single panel to investigate complaints by the European Union, the U.S. and Japan concerning Argentina’s measures on imported goods, which allegedly violate WTO regulations, including trade and licensing agreements.
Argentina said that it had repealed automatic import licenses, as well as non-automatic import licenses, as of Jan. 25. Argentina noted that in view of the repeal, the panel should not rule on measures that were not in force at the time of panel composition.
Additionally, at the request of Argentina, the Dispute Settlement Body has established a panel to examine U.S. measures affecting the import of animals, meat and other animal products from Argentina. The South American nation considers certain U.S. measures to be inconsistent with WTO regulations regarding food safety and trade agreements.
