Shri Anand Sharma, India’s Union Minister for Commerce, Industry & Textiles, and Rob Davies, South Africa’s Minister of Trade and Industry, have reviewed the India-Southern African Customs Union preferential trade agreement negotiations in Johannesburg and have agreed there is a need for early finalization of the deal.
Sharma asked Davies to take up the issue of the negotiations and expedite SACU’s response to India’s proposal regarding the average margin of preference in the agreement so that the two sides can finalize and exchange their respective responses to the tariff request lists.
The ministers also decided to meet before the next BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) Trade Ministers’ Summit and agreed to coordinate stances on World Trade Organization issues.
