India, Mauritius to Boost Bilateral Trade, Investment

India and Mauritius have initiated steps toward setting up a joint business council and working group on trade and investment, according to Sayyad Abd-Al-Cader Sayed Hossen, Mauritius’s minister of industry, commerce and consumer protection, and Shri Anand Sharma, India’s union minister for commerce, industry and textiles.

The joint business council will aim to boost trade and investment ties by identifying priority sectors, and the joint working group will further work out the modalities for broadening economic engagement between the two countries, Sharma said at a bilateral meeting.

The ministers are interested in exploring the possibilities of approaching new markets through part value addition under the Freeport policy of Mauritius, which offers zero custom duty and corporate tax-free regime for companies with predominant export orientations, especially to Africa.
