US Customs Reports Growth in Cargo, Trade Processing

U.S. Customs and Border Protection processed nearly 25 million cargo containers through the nation’s ports of entry, increasing about 4 percent year-over-year, according to the agency's fiscal year 2012 summary of border enforcement efforts.

Customs also processed more than $2.3 trillion in trade, rising 5 percent compared to fiscal year 2011, while enforcing U.S. trade laws. In addition, Customs conducted nearly 23,000 seizures of goods that violate intellectual property rights, with a total retail value of $1.2 billion, representing a 14 percent increase in value from fiscal year 2011.
