US Customs Expands Air Cargo Advance Screening Pilot

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is formalizing and expanding its Air Cargo Advance Screening pilot, which enables members of the air freight industry to send and receive advance security filing data for their air cargo.

The data helps Customs and the Transportation Security Administration identify cargo shipments inbound to the U.S. that may be high risk and require additional physical screening.

Pilot participants may benefit from automating the identification of high-risk cargo for advanced screening before it is consolidated and loaded onto aircraft, as well as ra eduction in paper processes related to screening requirements, Customs said.
