The California Air Resources Board is releasing about $90 million in state bond money for the state's goods movement emission reduction program, including the clean-trucks programs at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
California voters in 2006 approved Proposition 1B, a $19.93 billion bond issue for infrastructure development and pollution-reduction projects. However, CARB could not secure much of the money because of the state's financial crisis and the inability to get the bonds funded.
A total of $161 million has now been made available, with $90 million of that amount designated for pollution reduction in the goods movement sector. The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have developed subsidy programs under their clean-trucks plans to help motor carriers purchase new, low-emission clean-diesel and alternative-power trucks.
