RailAmerica, acquired by Genesee & Wyoming on Oct. 1, reported profit in the third quarter, ending Sept. 30, was $5.9 million, down 34.3 percent from last year’s third-quarter profit of $9.1 million.
The short line and regional railroad operator posted a net loss of $22.9 million in the first nine months of 2012, plummeting from last year’s profit of $21.8 million during the same period.
Quarterly operating revenue was $155.4 million, up 11.2 percent year-over-year from $139.7 million.
Quarterly freight revenue was $113.0 million, an increase of 8.0 percent from last year’s $104.7 million. Freight revenue from January to September was $334.4 million, up 8.6 percent from $307.9 million in the same period of 2011.
