Lake Osewgo, Ore.-based railroad equipment supplier The Greenbrier Companies has received orders for 4,200 railcar units, valued at more than $430 million, from North American and European markets since the start of its current fiscal year, which began on Sept. 1, 2012.
North American shale energy markets generated orders for 1,250 tank cars, worth about $160 million, the company said in a written statement.
Greenbrier also received orders for 1,400 automotive-related products valued at $140 million.
The remaining 1,550 railcars included a variety of other railcar types, according to investment research firm Stifel Nicolaus' Transportation, Logistics and Equipment Research Group.
