Union Pacific Railroad and CenterPoint Properties on Oct. 18 will open the 785-acre Joliet Intermodal Terminal southwest of Chicago.
The intermodal rail hub will give UP access to all major traffic lanes, including the heavily-traveled east-west lane between California and the Chicago area.
By The Numbers: U.S. Intermodal Container Traffic.
The Joliet Intermodal Terminal has an annual capacity of more than 500,000 lifts. It will also serve as an import distribution hub for international traffic destined for the upper Midwest.
