Indian Railways’ Revenue Jumps 19 Percent

Total revenue of Indian Railways, operated by the Indian government’s Ministry of Railways, reached Rs. 78868.17 crore (approximately US $14.5 billion) from April 1 to Nov. 30 (the first eight months of fiscal year 2012-2013), increasing 19 percent from last year’s $12.1 billion and continuing 2012’s upward trend.

From April to November, freight earnings have gone up from $8.1 billion in 2011 to $10.0 billion in 2012, a 24 percent increase.

Passenger revenue and other earnings also contributed to the jump in overall revenue.
