Rio Tinto, a British-Australian multinational metals and mining corporation based in London, has applauded the Australian Competition Tribunal’s decision that its Hamersley and Robe rail lines in Western Australia should not be opened up to other users.
Rio Tinto’s railway, which is integrated with its port and mine operations, would be “severely hindered” if third parties were allowed to run trains on its rail network, said Paul Shannon, acting chief executive of Rio Tinto Iron Ore, in a written statement.
