Etihad Rail, developer and operator of the United Arab Emirates’ national railway network, has signed a memorandum of agreement with supply chain management company Sharaf Logistics, part of the Dubai-based Sharaf Group, allowing Sharaf to use Etihad Rail’s network to transport goods.
Construction of Etihad Rail’s Stage One is underway, and tendering for Stage Two is in progress. Stage Two, which will connect Mussafah, the Gulf ports and the Saudi and Omani borders, will benefit the logistics company and support its Gulf Corporation Council business, Etihad said in a written statement.
Upon completion, Etihad’s freight and passenger rail network will span a total of 1,200 kilometers (about 746 miles) across the UAE.
